Kellyanne Conway made a name for herself as a political consultant and served as Senior Counselor to the President during Donald Trump’s first administration from 2017 to 2020. Before that, Conway played a key role as Trump’s campaign manager, becoming one of his most trusted strategists.
However, while Kellyanne stood firmly in Trump’s corner, her now ex-husband, George Conway, had a very different stance—one that often clashed with hers in public. Their opposing political views became a headline-making spectacle, and over time, the tension spilled into their marriage.
From their first meeting to the unraveling of their relationship, here’s everything you need to know about Conway’s marriage and family
When Did Kellyanne Conway Meet Her Ex-Husband, George?
Conway had seen Kellyanne on TV before, but it wasn’t until the late 1990s that the lawyer felt the urge to meet her. The moment of inspiration? Spotting her on the cover of a society magazine. Intrigued, Conway reached out to his friend, conservative commentator Ann Coulter, and asked for an introduction.

At the time, Kellyanne was part of a rising group of young conservative women—including Laura Ingraham, Barbara Olson, and Ann Coulter—who were making punditry not just influential but stylish. Their presence on cable news and in Washington circles helped spark what some called the city’s “sexual awakening.”
George wasted no time in wooing her, pulling out all the stops with getaways to his Hamptons beach rental and tickets to baseball playoffs. It didn’t take long for Kellyanne to realize his presence wasn’t just persistent—it was comforting. She later admitted to a friend, “I find that his near-constant presence doesn’t annoy me.”
After dating for a while, the couple eventually got engaged.
Their Wedding in 2001
Kellyanne and George tied the knot in April 2001 in a lavish ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. Their wedding wasn’t just grand—it was the kind of affair people talked about long after the last champagne glass was emptied.
The highlight? A cake so massive that it had to be cut into pieces just to fit through the door. Political commentator Jonah Goldberg, who attended the event, later quipped, “It was the biggest, fanciest wedding I’ve ever been to in my entire life. All seven of the members of the right-wing conspiracy were there. The rest were just Republicans.”
At the time of their marriage, George was already a prominent legal figure. As counsel at the powerhouse law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, Conway had made a name for himself by writing the Supreme Court brief for Paula Jones during Bill Clinton’s impeachment in 1998. Meanwhile, Kellyanne was cementing her status as a rising Republican strategist.
Their marriage was the perfect fusion of law, politics, and power—until their opposing views started making headlines years later.
Their Divorce After Two Decades of Marriage
After more than two decades together, Kellyanne and George officially called it quits in March 2023. Their split wasn’t entirely shocking—after all, their opposing political views had been a source of public tension for years.
The couple announced their separation in a joint statement, which George shared on Twitter, confirming that they were in the “final stages of an amicable divorce.”
“We married more than two decades ago, cherish the many happy years (and four corgis) we’ve shared, and above all else, our four incredible children, who remain the heartbeat of our family and our top priority,” they wrote.
At one point, the Conways were seen as a Republican power couple. But when Donald Trump entered the political scene, their dynamic took a dramatic turn. George initially supported Trump’s presidency, but it didn’t take long for him to become one of Trump’s harshest critics. By 2019, the activist had co-founded The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump political group working to prevent his re-election.
Meanwhile, his wife Kellyanne was one of Trump’s most vocal defenders, first as his campaign manager and later as a senior counselor in the White House. While Kelly stood by Trump on national television, George was firing off scathing tweets against him—creating an unusual, highly publicized political divide within their marriage.
In the end, the tension proved too much, and the couple parted ways. But despite their differences, they emphasized that their children remained their top priority.
They Have Four Children
The couple share four children, with their eldest two making the biggest headlines.
Their firstborns are twins, Claudia Conway and George Conway IV, born on October 17, 2004. While George IV has kept a low profile, Claudia has made waves as a TikTok star, gaining attention for her outspoken anti-Trump stance—a sharp contrast to her mother’s political views.
